Bill, over at The Thinklings, offers some good points on tipping for believers. It comes on the heels of the post “Tipping Points” in which fellow Thinkling, Jared, points out an article about the impression that attendees of the annual SBC left on the local service industry in Greensboro, NC.
Why is it that Christians have such a rotten reputation when it comes to tipping? I can’t, for the life of me, think of one good reason that any Christian could give that would excuse them from tipping anyone from the pizza guy to the waitress that’s been on her feet for 10 hours and still smiles when she comes to your table. Servers at a restaurant are working for close to $2/hour, you know.
My rule? In Alabama, sales tax is 8%, so I usually double the tax on the check. That’s a minimum. Do unto others is a great rule for me, because I’ve been on the other side of the table.
